Finish with Victory: Emil Frey Jaguar Racing ends commitment with GT3 Jaguar

  • Mission completed: GT3 Jaguar ends last season on a high
  • Pioneer Work and Team Spirit with “GT3 Jaguar” Project
  • Emil Frey Racing secures 2nd Place in Endurance Cup Team Championship

Safenwil (Switzerland), 24 October 2018:
The best comes for last and in case with the Emil Frey GT3 Jaguar it could not be truer. In the last of a total of five active years in racing, Emil Frey Jaguar Racing recorded the most magnificent achievements in the history of the “Blue Cat”. The Garage door has closed now, but memories remain about great races and wonderful moments.

After test drives, some race entries and further development steps, Emil Frey Jaguar Racing engaged in the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup in the 2014 season. The team entered with one GT3 Jaguar in the 2015 and 2016 season and secured promptly a third place in the PRO-AM category at their home race at Silverstone. In the same year and after a good season, the team finished in fifth place in the PRO-AM Team Championship. The Emil Frey GT3 Jaguar was listed in eighth place in the PRO-AM Class at the traditional 24-hours-race of Spa-Francorchamps in 2015, the result was even topped by the finish of both GT3 Jaguar the year later.

In its fifth total season, the whole team was pleased about its best-ever results in the renowned GT3 Championship. The team started with the talented Swiss Alex Fontana, the Canadian Mikael Grenier and Adrian Zaugg, also driving under the Swiss flag, with the #54 GT3 Jaguar in the Silver Cup. The Emil Frey Jaguar Racing Team secured a total of four Class Pole Positions, two race wins in the Silver Cup as well as three further podium positions. The pleasure for all participating was even greater to see the GT3 Jaguar performing on a high level also in the overall standings. The Jaguar-Team headed from second place on the grid and therefore from the first row into the race at the season opener at Monza, in a field that saw more than 50 cars competing – an impressive achievement and the best-ever qualifying results in the history. In the very last race for the GT3 Jaguar at the season final at Barcelona, the Swiss racing car showed its superiority once more: not only did it take race victory in the Silver Cup but also third place in the overall classification.

Following years of meticulous developments, all the hard work paid off and amongst the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup Silver Cup Championship win for the three drivers Alex Fontana, Mikael Grenier and Adrian Zaugg, Emil Frey Racing also achieved second place in the team´s standings in the Endurance Cup. As the GT3 Jaguar crossed the finishing line for the last time, mechanics, drivers and team members alike stood emotionally with one eye crying at the pit wall.

The project “GT3 Jaguar” was emotional from the first day. Company founder Emil Frey, a pioneer ahead of his times, was the first importer of Jaguar cars worldwide in 1926, formerly known under the name of SS Cars. The following generations around Walter and Lorenz Frey continued to live the pioneer spirit and founded the Emil Frey Racing Team. The race division of Emil Frey Racing took on the ambitious project and started building the GT3 race car, firstly with a partner, but later on its own in the small town of Safenwil with a handful of experts. The Emil Frey GT3 Jaguar challenged the big manufacturers, such as Audi, Lamborghini, Mercedes and more on the international motorsport stage.

“We can look back at our work with a lot of pride”, explains Jürg Flach, Technical Director Emil Frey Racing. “The development of our Jaguar was a true pioneer work. We have developed the car completely by ourselves with our small team. Each and every one of us who was involved in the project can be proud of the achievements. It has been five exciting years and the crowning conclusion of the year with winning the Silver Cup Championship was even nicer."

“Together with our team members and the believe in the so-called Mission Impossible we have really managed to make the impossible possible and were able to bring the traditional English brand onto the road to success in GT3 racing with the Emil Frey GT3 Jaguar”, says Team Principal Lorenz Frey-Hilti. “We have always been the small, private team from Switzerland, but our competence was never underestimated and so, for example, we were the only private team allowed to participate in the official tyre tests by Pirelli. With our great knowledge and not least through our inner force and trust we have managed to take on the fight with the big manufactures. It is really very nice and difficult to put into words what the successes from this year mean to all of us. We have received the reward for the hard work throughout the past years with the great results this season. The Jaguar has given us a wonderful end to this unique history by its race-lead-kilometres, by winning the Silver Cup and by becoming third overall in his farewell race. Now it deserves a beautiful spot in our museum in Safenwil. I am very proud to be Team Principal of such a great crew. We will miss the GT3 Jaguar, but it will continue to drive in our hearts.”
